Our hot sauce recipe, a cherished family secret for over three generations, began its journey to commercial success in 2014 in Antigua. We launched our product at Island Gourmet, an upscale boutique in Radcliffe Quay, St. John’s. Convincing a skeptical proprietor to carry our brand was a significant challenge, but Melvin’s Hot Sauce soon became a bestseller, thanks to its distinctive flavor and quality.
The overwhelming customer response drove our prices above other popular brands, with an impressive 80% conversion rate—eight out of ten people who sampled it made an immediate purchase. Our diverse customer base included both locals and tourists, with glowing reviews like Ross R. from San Mateo, California, who called it the highlight of her vacation, and Ms. Donovan, a Londoner, who praised it as the perfect hot sauce for her family.
Our success continued as we partnered with prestigious hotel chains such as Sandals Grande Antigua and Hermitage Bay. In 2016, we rebranded as Demerara Premium to honor our Guyanese and Caribbean roots and expanded into the U.S. market through supermarkets and Amazon. That year, we won two major awards at the Screaming Mi Mi Hot Sauce Expo.
